Nurturing Faith: Embracing Emotional Openness in Christ

In a world that teaches us to suppress, perform, or protect our hearts at all costs, Christ invites us into something radically different: emotional openness in His presence. Not chaos. Not emotional instability. But surrendered transparency.

Faith does not silence emotions. Faith sanctifies them.

God Never Asked You to Be Numb

Many believers think maturity means being unbothered. However, scripture shows us something richer. David, a warrior and king, who openly wept before the Lord:

“The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart,And saves such as have a contrite spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 (NKJV)

God does not withdraw from emotional vulnerability. He draws near to it.

Even Jesus expressed emotion openly.

“Jesus wept.” — John 11:35 (NKJV)

The Son of God, fully divine, fully holy — wept. Not from weakness. From love.

Emotional openness in Christ is not fragility. It is intimacy.

Casting, Not Carrying

So many women are silently strong. They pray, serve, smile — yet carry silent burdens. But Scripture does not tell us to manage anxiety. It tells us to release it.

“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV)

Notice the word casting. Not placing gently and not holding halfway, and throwing it fully into His hands.

Softness Is Not Spiritual Weakness

There is a lie that emotional openness equals spiritual immaturity. But the Word shows that softness under God is strength.

“Blessed are the pure in heart,For they shall see God.” — Matthew 5:8 (NKJV)

A guarded heart cannot fully see Him. But a surrendered one can.

When we allow the Holy Spirit to refine our emotions, He does not erase them — He aligns them.

Developing Dauntless Disciples

Dauntless does not mean hardened. It means fearless in obedience.

A woman who cries before God but stands firm in truth is powerful. A woman who feels deeply yet obeys quickly is dangerous to the kingdom of darkness.

Power.Love.Soundness.

Faith That Feels

Nurturing faith means allowing your heart to be shaped by God — not suppressed by fear. It means weeping when you need to, repenting when you must, rejoicing when He moves, and trusting Him in every emotion.

Because the goal is not emotional perfection.

The goal is to surrender.

1. Bring your raw emotions to God first.

2. Separate your feelings from your identity.

3. Speak truth over what you feel.

4. Feel fully, but choose obedience consistently.

5. Build a safe, spiritually mature community.

6. Guard your emotional gates.

7. Anchor your heart daily before engaging the world.

Prayer

Lord, teach us to feel without fear. Refine our hearts without hardening them. Make us women who are soft before You but bold before the world. Develop us into daughters of Zion who are gentle in spirit, fearless in obedience. In Jesus’ name, amen
